I started back on a Vegan diet December 5th, just after the most recent 9 Day Training with Leonard Orr at Inspiration University in Virginia. This is a lifestyle change and requires a whole new strategy for shopping, cooking and eating.
If I am to be successful I need quick meals I can put together for the times I will not be cooking from scratch. Here you will find the fruits of my research, which includes label reading, purchasing and taste testing and experiences and highlight what is working for me at this time of transition from a 85% vegetarian diet to 100% vegan.
The conditioned palate - Even one's palate has expectations..
I am enjoying Vegenaise from 'Follow Your Heart' and Vegan Mozzerella by the same company. The Veganise tastes like mayonnaise. I like it very much and know, exactly how to use this product.
The Mozzerella is not much like Mozerella to my conditioned palate. I noticed the automatic protective wince and tension I held in my mouth as I tasted this new food, wondering if it would taste like mozzerella, not knowing what to expect at all. What was I protecting myself from? Disappointment? Experience of a taste I might not like? Funny how conditioned our palates can become, tensioned, resistant, expectant, and suspicious of change.
I enjoy exploring new food choices. And, I expect, that one day my palate with prepare itself with joy for a new experience..
Back to the mozzerella... I like this new product for the 'something completely different' that it is... it adds a refreshing moistness to veggie patties. Now, if I only has some sprouts... and, so I will follow my heart to the next project.'

SUNSHINE BURGER'S - a long time and former favorite of mine with a few new burger options... Original, Breakfast, and Falafal.. All are Soy Free.. I am delighed to have new options. So many vegan products use soy that I am very grateful for this new found diversity. For a while it looked as if soy was becoming 'the new corn'. DIVERSITY is Healthy ~!~
The 'breakfast' patty- organic cooked brown rice; org. raw sunflower seeds; org. cooked adzuki beans; org. hemp seeds; organic onion; org. bell pepper; org. paprika, sea salt; org. herbs; org. black pepper....
The 'falafel patty'- is organic to the hilt and includes br. rice; chickpeas, raw sunflower seeds; and different spices, including cumin.split peas, tahini
The Original are NON-GMO, cooked br rice; ground raw sunflower seeds; carrots, herbs, sea salt. ingredients do not say organic... it is quaint reading this box... from the early days. Sunshine Burgers came out at the height of full blown agri-business and commercialized prepared, packaged, convenience food industry.... before the organic movement took off..
Amy's is making Sonoma Burgers Gluten Free, Soy Free, Dairy Free.. something for everybody ~!~ made with Org. Quinoa, org mushrooms, org onions, gluten free oats; filtered water, org walnuts; org cellery, org carrots, org garbaa bean flour, org potatoes, sea salt, expeller pressed high oleic , safflower or sunflower oil, org garlic CONTAINS WALNUTS
All of these are enjoyable.. I dress them up with a variety of flavors. One thought I had was to try defrosting them in advance and mixing them up with chopped scallion or tomato, etc... then reforming them into homespun patties.. That would expand the possibilities and brighten them up at the same time..
Another winner this week is Quinoa paste with tahini sauce and gomasio. I will ass sweet peas to this next time.
My deepest wish is for good health for all. May this inspire others to Follow Their Hearts to greater health and well being.
